This video is "Our Prince Tribute Part 1". My first encounter with Prince was in winter 1982, I just moved to Minneapolis from Springfield, Illinois with my father and Prince was at our old apartment building on the south side (East 18th Street) jamming with the building manager "Woody" who was also a blues musician. At that time I was ten years old and did not know who he was until a few short months later when he was filming Purple Rain. The next encounter was during a film set in the alley near 1st Avenue where Jerome threw Apollonia in the garbage dumpster. Again, I was more interested with going to the near by arcade game on Hennepin Ave. Other encounters while living in Minneapolis was at a record store near the library also on Hennepin Ave, Burger King, and at the Civic Center mall.
In 1989, I lived in San Francisco while interning for a local radio station (107.7 KSOL) I met Prince while setting up for a club remote and he was doing a mic check rehearsal. We exchanged words and spoke about his jam session while I lived in Minneapolis and we chuckled about how fast time flies. During my broadcast years from 1989-1996 we have had few other encounters-what an experience it was to know such greatness, what a humble person he was than and he was in his final days. The world is blessed to have witness such greatness and humbleness. Rest in Heaven my friend.
